The Europe Test

Some guy who calls himself JD made this video to tell of an experience he had 2 years ago. After two weeks in Europe, he opened the mailbox to find a number of letters from his girlfriend who hadn’t realized that he’d gone off to Europe for a couple of weeks.

At first, I couldn’t believe this story. How could someone you’re dating miss the fact that you’re going away for two weeks? I thought he must’ve done a pretty bad job telling her. But when I watched this video and saw how she reacted in the end, it seemed obvious that he was not to be blamed for this. There was no “Why didn’t you tell me?!” from her part, just regret and embarrassment, which is understandable. Especially considering the drunk e-mail she sent him on June 10th (4:12).

I found this video very interesting from a psychological angle. I wonder what kind of personality types they are according to the myers-briggs type indicator (MBTI). She’s clearly driven by her emotions, and she was extremely dependant on her boyfriend. He does a pretty good job at analysis in the end of the video when he calls her “passionate” and adds, “passion swings both ways”. He might have been a good counterbalance when they were dating, being the calm, reflecting, analytical one. (At least, that’s the impression I got from reading his blog.) They probably weren’t very old at the time, seeing that he still lived with his mother. So hopefully, she’s matured a bit since then.

I wonder if this story has inspired others to execute “the Europe test” (definition).
