Sunday laws and Obama

Today, I googled the words “sunday laws obama“. The first result was Presenttruth.com which states in a headline that “Obama’s website debates Sunday Law”. It also says we should read it ourselves “to see what is creeping up on us faster than ever. This is not a joke.” Meanwhile, I’m wondering if it is a joke.

I go to the Obama website they’re talking about.

“There have been a lot of changes in the past 100 years.  Not only have we seen gang activity increase along with crimes, but so has energy consumption.  The other change I realized was the recinding of the “Sunday Laws” across the united states … I have to wonder if there weren’t more benefits to this … So perhaps we should consider enacting a Sunday Law.”

People on the presenttruth.com site went mad after having read this.

“There shouldn’t be ANY debate on the Sunday Law between the President Elect and the people of America. It should only go between God and His people.”

“This is a direct violation of freedom of religion according to the constitutional rights of religion.”

“We should rejoice upon hearing these; coz Bible prophecies are being fulfilled therefore signalling us that our Lord is near.”

A few of the other commentators had realized, though, that the statements on the Obama website was not written by any politicians. The opinions belonged solely to some average joe named Michael Pearce who happened to have a blog on the website. Underneath his blog post, it is clearly stated that

“Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign.”

Presenttruth.com had presented it as if it had come from Barack Obama himself, and people had bought it straightaway without attempting any critical consideration of the source.

So what might we learn from this? Occassionally, fellow members of the Adventist Church tell me how the prophecies of Ellen G. White (and Scripture) are about to be fulfilled. The Catholic Church is regaining power, they proclaim. The Sunday Laws will soon be established, and the Anti Christ will soon appear. He will put the mark of the beast on the foreheads of his followers, and these people will persecute Adventists. Or something like that.

I cannot fully deny the possibility that some of these things might happen someday, but let’s not get carried away. Most of the stories about what’s going on right now cannot be substantiated. If these prophecies are going to be fulfilled, it’s not going to happen today or tomorrow. It’s great to be prepared to defend the gospel and all that, but meanwhile we should keep straight our facts about the presence.

  1. To tell you the truth, i was on the website the first few days that the blog came out. And i was stunned to see that no SDA christians had commented on anything, thats when i realized that the article had just been posted and published that very day. I was shocked at what i was reading, and couldn’t believe my eyes. This is exactly what revelation predicted would happen, the beast out of the earth would make an image to the first beast. That image is sunday law, and it is a mark or commandment of the Beast that comes out of the sea (the papacy). The Roman catholic church states that the observance of sunday is a commandment of the Roman catholic church and not biblical. She also states that the Papacy changed the solemnity from the 7′th day sabbath to the 1’st day sunday, and that anyone observing sunday is observing a mark of the Papacy’s authority, because the papacy instituted that day and changed Yahweh’s (the Lord’s) Sabbath from Saturday to sunday. Sunday is a False sabbath, The Ten commandments written with the very finger of God will last forever, and the fourth commandment states: Keep the seventh-day Sabbath Holy. The Lord blessed that day and sanctified it, because it was a mark of his authority as creator of heaven and earth. Now i ask you this, if you truly want to hear what our savior has to say about this issue, and find the Truth out for yourself, then please read Matt 5:17-20. Gods Law last forever, Glory and praise be to our savior Yeshua (jesus) forever and ever, that we might do his will, and have a growing relationship with the Creator amen. “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” -John 14:15

  2. PS- This quote- “Content on blogs in My.BarackObama represents the opinions of community members and in no way should be interpreted as endorsed or approved by the campaign.” this was not on the website when i first saw the blog. it was recently added because of the anger and scare of SDA’s and all who keep God’s sabbath Holy.

  3. Gotta love conspiracy theories ;)

  4. Mamba. I do not intend to keep the Sabbath because of fear for the (mark of the) beast. I find that kind of motivator distasteful, even anti-Christian. What is this, the Middle Ages?

  5. Lars dorland, i agree with you. We keep the seventh day sabbath because we are those who love to keep the commandments of God, and hold to the testimony of Jesus Christ. We keep the Seventh-day Sabbath because we commemorate that day to our creator, as we acknowledge him as the maker of heaven and earth. We keep the Sabbath because we call it a delight and we turn our foot from doing our own pleasure on Yahweh’s Holy Day. He blessed the Seventh day, and Sanctified it. And God does not change, “and he hath blessed and I cannot reverse” -Numbers 23:20. We keep the Seventh day sabbath because Yeshua our savior said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” -John 14:15.
Now let me ask you this, If Jesus loved us first and died on the cross for our sins, Shouldn’t we return that love by choosing to obey what he has commanded, out of nothing But pure Love. I Don’t HAVE TO obey the Commandments to be saved, But i WANT TO obey the Commandments because i Love him, and i want to abide in his Love, Just as Yeshua (Jesus) abided in his Father’s love. I keep the commandments not out of fear of recieving some Mark, because It is written: “There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in Love”-1 John 4:18. You see, i do not keep the Sabbath out of fear of punishment, because perfect love casteth out fear. So then is the opposite true, -should there be fear in No Love??? Of Course!!! Love is what binds us to God, if we don’t have love, then we have nothing, Because God is Love. Again i repeat this scripture,- Yeshua says “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” -John 14:15. Perfect Love casteth out all fear.

So keep The Commandments out of Love for our creator, not because we have to, but because we want to and love to. “We love because he first loved us”-1 John 4:19

  6. Colby, I see that you and Mamba share the same IP address (same Internet connection). Are you the same person? In any case, I certainly prefer your latest entry.

  7. Two years ago Pope Benedict XVI urged Austrian Catholics to protect Sunday as a day of spiritual focus in an increasingly busy world. He said “Modern Christians need an appointment with the Lord to give them a sense of direction and help them move beyond “the bustle of everyday life” 9. The news article goes on to say “And in an innovative touch that seemed to reflect the pope’s recent attention to “green” issues, he suggested that Sunday be celebrated not only as a day of rest but as “the church’s weekly feast of creation.” Referring to the biblical account of creation, the pope said that Sunday, as the first day of the week, saw the dawning of the created world, the day on which God said: “Let there be light.” For the early church, he said, Sunday gradually assimilated the traditional meaning of the seventh day, the Sabbath, the day God rested. But Sunday is also thanksgiving and joy over God’s creation,” he said. I find this sad and confusing on two counts (1) that he knows that God rested on the 7th day but thinks he is above God and (2) he believes in evolution.
