All about Mormons
7. maj, 2008
South Park made an episode about Mormons. Their main focus was Joseph Smith and the origin of the Book of Mormon. While it is probably inaccurate due to entertainment purposes, it’s definitely worth the watch. I personally would love to see a similar depiction of the Adventist Church and the pioneers, but I guess we’re not famous enough.

“How about some scripture reading from the Book of Mormon! You know, the book that Joseph Smith found. You never heard of him? The most important person in the world.”
“Joseph Smith was called a prophet.”

“Who was this Joseph Smith guy? Why did he believe that Native Americans were actually white people that came from Jerusalem? Because he found ancient books written on goldplates right where the angel said they would be!”
“This must be the gospel that Jesus told the Nephites!”
“Well, I was not allowed to take them. You see, after I found the goldplates, the angel appeared to me again! and said to me that I was not allowed to show the seer stones or the goldplates to anybody! Because first, I must translate them into English so you can all read it!”

“What happened after he found the golden plates buried in the ground?”
“They’re not rocks, they’re seer stones, given to me by an angel. With these, God allows me to translate the plates into English! [...] I have the golden plates here in this hat. I have to keep ‘em somewhere dark, so I can read the spiritual light.”
“Write this down: And so … it was … that … Christ … appeared before … the Nephites!”

“The best part of the Joseph Smith story: The part that proves he was for real!”
“Wait, Mormons actually know this story and still believe Joseph Smith was a prophet?”
Some criticism to the South Park depiction of Joseph Smith:
